Introducing Lyft Line, Your Daily Ride

Every day, 90% of Lyft rides have someone else taking the same trip within five minutes. So we wondered: What if we connected them? And created a new way to ride.

Today, we’re excited to announce the launch of Lyft Line — shared rides along shared routes, priced for daily use. Simply set your destination, and we’ll connect you with a ride already going the same way for up to 60% less than an original Lyft ride. Lyft Line will roll out first in San Francisco on iOS, with Android and other cities to follow.

With Lyft Line, we’re creating a new category of transportation: personal transit. Personal transit is about access for everyone. We believe that modern cities should offer reliable, affordable transportation wherever you live. We want to bring the best parts of Lyft — on-demand service, door-to-door trips, and community — to daily travel. And, to make Line affordable for everyday use, we’ve priced it up to 60% less than an original Lyft ride.

In April 2014, we acquired transit company Rover, bringing on co-founders David Dryjanski and Lev Popov to lead the creation of Line.

We’ve spent our entire lives moving around transit. Paying to rent near it. Sprinting to catch it. Timing our days to its timetables. But from today on, transit comes to us.

Lyft Line is a system that is flexible, lightweight, and constructs itself in real-time. This is a transit system with infinite routes — and it becomes stronger, more affordable, and more efficient the more it’s used. It will grow as we grow, and change as our cities change.

To celebrate launch, your first Lyft Line ride is free. Try it out, let us know what you think.
