We’re proud to share that Lyft is among the first group of apps to integrate with Apple Pay. Starting today, Lyft passengers with an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus will have the option to easily pay for their Lyft rides through this secure and private mobile payment option.
We’re always looking for new ways to improve the ride experience for both passengers and drivers. Lyft’s integration with Apple Pay now provides an additional option for on-the-go passengers that is easy to use, convenient and secure.
Here’s how it works:
Existing passengers can enable Apple Pay in the 'Payment' section of the Lyft app. Once enabled, Apple Pay will become the default payment option. Remember, you can always change your payment option at the end of the ride.
New passengers who have already input their credit card information into Passbook can choose to use Apple Pay as the default payment option in the Lyft app. When you request your first ride, we’ll authorize your account with a one-time $0.01 authorization charge that will be refunded after the ride has ended.
At the end of your ride, you can add a tip and submit your payment just as you normally would. The payment option will read 'Apple Pay.'
Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay. When you add a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on your device. Each transaction is authorized with a unique dynamic security code, instead of using the security code from the back of your card.
