Last month, getting around Portland got weirder with Lyft’s official launch in the Rose City. Now, we’re excited to announce that Lyft is teaming up as an Adopt-a-Route partner with local nonprofit Meals on Wheels People.
Serving more than 5,000 meals per day, Meals on Wheels People facilitates food delivery in Portland to help prevent seniors from going hungry or experiencing isolation. One week ago, Meals on Wheels People and Lyft teamed up for the first of many volunteer events where drivers deliver meals to homebound seniors.
To driver Aleksandr, the most rewarding part of working with this organization is “seeing the gratitude on [someone’s] face when something so simple as a hot meal is delivered to their door.”
We’re especially excited to partner with Meals on Wheels People, as we share the vision of connecting people and their communities. Together, we can create a positive impact through transportation.
We look forward to seeing more drivers, in Portland and in cities across the country, help reconnect people and communities by joining volunteer initiatives like Meals on Wheels America. The Lyft for Good program grew from self-led volunteer initiatives we've seen from Lyft drivers in their communities. Lyft drivers have gone above and beyond in communities nationwide to perform these acts of kindness, so we wanted to support those efforts by creating a channel for even more drivers and passengers to give back in the future. Every two weeks, our Lyft for Good series will highlight these remarkable drivers and their impact in their communities.
