Seattle is not only one of Lyft’s earliest cities, but it continues to be one of our fastest-growing markets.
Since the beginning of the year, we’ve doubled the number of rides and drivers, and the Seattle community has become an increasingly vital component of our culture, brand, and ongoing growth. Lyft loves Seattle, and we’re not going anywhere. In fact, we’re setting up shop right downtown!
We’re excited to announce that we’re expanding our presence in Seattle with a new regional office that will house a local operations team and a world-class engineering center. Led by Seattle General Manager Todd Kelsay, our operations team will focus on maintaining the best possible Lyft experience in the Emerald City. The engineering center will be an extension of our team in San Francisco, led by VP Engineering Peter Morelli.
Seattle is a thriving hub for innovation in technology and one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. With more and more young professionals commuting downtown every day, Lyft has become a key alternative to owning a car. In fact, when we asked passengers in our seven oldest markets, including Seattle, how Lyft has changed the way they use their own car, 60% said they use their personal vehicles less because of Lyft. Even more exciting: because of Lyft, 46% of passengers said they would avoid owning a personal vehicle entirely. All of this means we are helping people get around their cities without the burden of owning a car, and contributing to fewer cars on the road.
With more than 1 million rides per week and new homes in both Nashville and Seattle, we are making great progress toward reconnecting people and communities through better transportation. And we’re hiring! Take a look at our jobs page if you’re interested in joining the movement.
