With Thanksgiving here, the holidays are now in full swing! For many, this time of year is a joyous celebration, complete with family gatherings and gifts under the tree. But for those who are less fortunate, this season can be one of hardship. This #GivingTuesday, we're highlighting some of our nonprofit partners in Portland that are striving to make everyone’s holiday season a bit more merry and bright.
In the spirit of #GivingTuesday, we’ve outlined how you can support these causes below, both through Lyft and on your own. We hope that this inspires you to give back on this day of generosity!
The Great KGW Toy Drive. Every year, KGW organizes a Toy Drive that runs from November 10 — December 14. Once all toys are collected, the news station works with nonprofit partners to distribute the toys to children in need across the Portland area. For the second year in a row, our Lyft Portland Hub is a drop-off location for the drive. If you’d like to give a toy, simply bring it by our Portland Hub, and we’ll deliver it to KGW for distribution. Looking for other ways to contribute to the drive? Give family members and friends who have never used Lyft before the KGWTOYDRIVE16 new user code. They'll get $50 in ride credit, and Lyft will donate $10 in toys to the Toy Drive. Sunshine Division. Since 1923, the Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division has been providing food and clothing relief to Portland families and individuals in need. And this holiday season is no different. The organization will distribute Holiday Boxes to families across the Portland Metro Area on December 17th, while continuing to run their clothing and food banks throughout the holidays. If you’re interested in giving to the Sunshine Division, pass along the SUNSHINED Lyft new user code to your family members who have never before used Lyft; once they take their first ride, Lyft will donate $10 to the organization. You can also make a cash donation to the Sunshine Division here.
St Andrew Nativity School. St Andrew Nativity School provides a tuition-free, Catholic middle school education to young people of all faiths from low-income backgrounds. 90% of Nativity School students go on to graduate from high school and 80% go on to attend college. This holiday season, they’ll be providing students’ families with food boxes, as well as support throughout the winter break. Similar to Sunshine Division & the Toy Drive, St. Andrew Nativity also has a Lyft new passenger code you can distribute. Theirs is PTOWNNATIVITY. Pass this code along to those who haven’t yet used Lyft, and once they take their first ride, we'll donate $10 to the school. Make a cash donation to the school here.
