There's no doubt that Nashville summers get seriously hot. With heat indexes over a hundred degrees, finding a place to cool off becomes top priority. We've rounded up some of the best ways to hang out when things heat up.
Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP)
There are several great spots in Nashville to partake in this trendy water sport. Nashville Paddle is located on Percy Priest Lake as well as downtown on the Cumberland River. SUP Music City also has a location on Percy Priest lake as well as the Smith Springs Recreation Area. Finally, Big Willie’s offers both SUP and kayak rentals from downtown Nashville which makes for a great day on the water. For more info on pricing and offerings check out this guide from Nashville Guru.
Percy Priest Lake
Not interested in SUP? Percy Priest Lake offers plenty of other activities. There's a boat launch if you have your own, and if you don’t, there are plenty of places you can rent a pontoon boat or jet ski for the day. You can also head to the Anderson Campground which offers a small swimming area.
For a cool weekend getaway (that isn’t very far away at all) the whole family will enjoy, look no further than Nashville Shores. The Shores feature a great waterpark, a treetop adventure park, and even lake view cabins.
If you just want to get your feet wet and enjoy a nice beachy beverage, Pinewood Social is your spot. Head over to their courtyard area beside the restaurant for a poolside menu and a couple of small dipping pools. They even offer towels for a few bucks if you need to dry off afterward.
For a more adventurous water escape, take the hour-long trip to Cummins Falls. The hike is challenging, but the reward at the end is a 75-foot waterfall with a crystal clear swimming hole beneath it.
Enjoy and stay cool out there!
