Spotting murals is one of the most rewarding parts of riding through the city of Detroit. They capture the spirit of our neighborhoods. They brighten our days in the dead of winter. They remind us of where we’ve been and where we’re going.
Over 100 murals have been painted by volunteers for Summer in the City, a local non-profit that organizes teens and college students from Metro Detroit to engage in community service projects throughout the city each summer.
Tomorrow, August 12th, we'll be joining Summer in the City and 1,500 local volunteers, neighbors, and campers for one of the organization’s most ambitious murals yet — in celebration of their 15th year of service. To make this event even more special, we've donated 600 backpacks which local campers will fill with children's books, crayons, pencils, and calculators to take with them to classes in the fall.
We’d love for you to join us in this celebration as we all leave our (colorful) mark on the city of Detroit. New to Lyft? Use the promo code SITCDETROIT for $20 in ride credit toward transportation to the event — we’ll even donate $10 to Summer in the City after you complete your first ride.
See you there!
