Top 4 Things to Do at Denver Oktoberfest

Top 4 Things to Do at Denver Oktoberfest

The air is crisper, the leaves are changing, and pumpkin spice is officially back for the season; fall is upon us. Summer may be coming to a close, but Denverites still have plenty to look forward to! Oktoberfest is returning once again to Denver this weekend and next. This year’s festival will span two weekends (Sept. 23-25, Sept. 30-Oct. 2) and will be held on Larimer Street between 20th and 22nd. See the full schedule here.

Oktoberfest may revolve around drinking beer, but attendees of the Denver event should be prepared for much more than that. Read on for the top four things that you can participate in before, after, or during all that beverage consumption.

  1. Keg bowling - Get your heartbeat pumping with a little competition that comes in the very unique form of keg bowling. We’ve all been to bowling alleys, but keg bowling is a one-of-a-kind event. Get out there and roll some kegs around yourself, or cheer on competitors from the sidelines. It’s sure to be a spectacle either way!

  2. Catch some live music - Denver’s Oktoberfest not only spans three days, but long hours each of those days. Fill at least part of your time at the event with music. There will be multiple stages offering a number of musical genres including, traditional German, electronic and folk. Get your dance on while soaking up some culture!

  3. Bratwurst eating contest - There will be plenty of food at Denver Oktoberfest (see the full menu here), but what specialty screams “I’m German!” more than the bratwurst? If you’re a lover of these delectable sausages, you can sign up to participate in the contest, or there’s always the option of watching the food frenzy from afar.

  4. Watch the Long Dog Derby - If bratwursts aren’t your thing, check out a different kind of hotdog at the Long Dog Derby. Be ready for a flood of adorableness as you watch wiener dogs compete for six different prizes in a string of races. Dogs of all ages are welcome! Check out the race categories here.

Lyft and Denver Oktoberfest know that it can often be tricky and expensive to find parking in LoDo, so we’re making things simple! First time Lyft passengers can get $10 off of two rides by entering DENOKTOBERFEST into their app when they sign up and existing users will get 25% off of rides to and from the event by entering DENOKTOBERFEST16 into the “payment” section of their Lyft app, or by clicking the links below. We hope to see you there!
