As we reconnect people and communities through better transportation, we’ve learned Lyft unleashes significant new economic potential — generating an additional $225 million for local economies in 2014 alone.
We are always looking for partners who drive prosperity with a commitment to inclusivity, as well, and are therefore excited to announce today that Lyft has joined the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC).
NGLCC is the business voice for the LGBT community, which itself commands $917 billion in annual buying power.
With 47 affiliate chambers around the country, NGLCC advocates for expanded economic opportunity for LGBT people. Its Supplier Diversity Initiative has over 150 members, and Lyft is the first ridesharing company to join.
Through the partnership, we'll work with NGLCC to ensure LGBT-owned business are able to bid on the contracts that power Lyft's operations in over 200 cities.
Additionally, Lyft and NGLCC will collaborate on policy advocacy at the state and local level. Together, we can amplify the call for equal opportunity on LGBT rights, as well as for functional peer-to-peer ridesharing laws which enable everyday people to participate in the earning opportunity of Lyft.
