Driving Equality

Driving Equality

At Lyft, we believe that our communities are stronger when all of us have equal rights, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.

As part of our new partnership with Equality Federation, we’re providing their staff with Lyft credits to power their travel around the country. This is the first time we have supported a non-profit ally with a business account through Lyft Mobility Solutions, and we’re excited to help Equality Federation fight for non-discrimination in communities across the U.S.

Roey Thorpe, a Director at Equality Federation, was recently in Jacksonville, Florida to give a training to LGBTQ and allied advocates, and took a Lyft ride to her hotel. “My driver, Monquiz, turned out to be a former football player! In our conversation, he told me he charitably donates all of his Lyft earnings to the Boys and Girls Club, and I was able to tell him about my work with Equality Federation.”

Through the partnership, Equality Federation’s legislative experts are also working directly with Lyft’s LGBTQ employee resource group, LyftOut, to provide in-person and virtual trainings on how to advocate for equality. Currently, 32 states lack comprehensive nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people. By joining with Equality Federation, Lyft staff across departments and offices are engaging to amplify the call for inclusivity and equal protection under the law.
