Summit, NJ, Lyft, and the Virtual Parking Garage

A parking garage may not be the first place you’d visit in virtual reality, but if you’re a resident of Summit, NJ scoring a parking space in the virtual parking garage is the hottest spot around.

Parking spaces at Summit Station fill up notoriously quickly, this forces residents to park in the congested parking garages downtown — which makes it increasingly difficult for Summit visitors and shoppers to find parking. This is where Lyft comes in.

On December 4, 2017, Lyft will become the official rideshare partner for the City of Summit, NJ.

Lyft and The City of Summit, NJ will be working together to provide Summit residents with prepaid parking permits free rides to Summit Station — in other words, their prepaid parking permit gets them access to the virtual parking garage.

Residents can soon be dropped off right at the station between Monday to Friday from 5 AM-11 PM.  Trips must begin or end within Summit or at the Summit train station. Not only can residents request a ride on demand, but they can also schedule a ride up to 7 days in advance.

Summit residents without prepaid permits can also access the virtual parking garage at the cost of $2 per ride — the equivalent of the Summit’s $4 daily parking.

The program is currently being offered to 150 residential commuters and is so popular it will be expanded to include 50 additional residents from the program waiting list.
