Starting this holiday season, Lyft, Douglas County, and The Rock Church in Castle Rock, Colorado are coming together to provide access to reliable and convenient transportation to those in need with the Ride Together program.
“In an affluent county populated with personal vehicles and accessible roads, there are those who are in need of transportation assistance, such as the homeless, elderly, low-income families, single parents, those with disabilities, and more,” Lead Pastor, Mike Polhemus, of The Rock explains. “With limited to no public transportation provided in the area, it is very difficult for these people to get to their workplaces, go to doctor’s appointments, or buy food from the grocery store.”
This partnership between Lyft, the county, and The Rock Church is a unique coming together of both the public and private sectors, the faith-based community, and individual drivers.
"Through Ride Together, Douglas County has piloted a program that will help our most vulnerable residents access reliable transportation through Lyft,” shares Douglas County Commissioner Lora Thomas. “We believe this collaboration will improve mobility throughout the county.”
We’re thrilled to partner with Douglas County on the Ride Together program.
“We know accessible and affordable transportation is a pain point for many in the community,” says Gabe Cohen, Lyft General Manager Colorado. “We hope that this collaboration will bring the assistance needed during the holiday season.”
Here’s How it Works
Douglas County has committed to help vulnerable and transit-dependent residents through free or discounted Lyft rides.
To further support the program, the faith-based community (led by The Rock Church) is recruiting volunteer drivers whose earnings will be donated to the program.
