Brace yourself, San Francisco: it’s Bay to Breakers weekend! Our city may be 7x7 square miles, but that’s all the distance we need for one of San Francisco’s quirkiest traditions. Need some advice on how to survive the weekend ahead? We’ve put together a few helpful tips to get you through it.
Know Your Crowd Tolerance
First things first, know your tolerance for large crowds. Bay to Breakers expects anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 participants. If that doesn’t sound appealing, that’s okay! Avoid the crowds and treat yourself to a day outside the city. Head up to Napa and sip on wine. Request a Lyft ride and head down to the South Bay. Whatever your preference, enjoy your weekend with activities that make you happy.
Bring Your C-Game
Your costume game, that is. Bay to Breakers isn’t just about your finishing time, it’s all about the costume. Anything from an inflatable sumo suit to classic 80’s workout gear is encouraged. Get creative and express your quirky side.
Prepare for Those SF Hills
While this might be considered a “fun run,” don’t forget about the hills San Francisco is so well known for. Make sure your costume is accessorized with comfy shoes and a water bottle in hand. Check out the race elevation map ahead of time and be prepared for the infamous Hayes Hill challenge.
Plan Your Transportation
Nothing can bring down the energy like missing your train and getting to the race late. Plan your transportation to and from with Lyft. Did you know you can schedule your ride ahead of time? Check out instructions on how to schedule a pickup here. Focus on the race and we’ll focus on getting you from your front door to the starting line. Even better, ride with us this weekend and you might get surprised with a survival goodie bag!
Best of luck to all those participating this weekend! We’ll be cheering you on from the driver’s seat.
