Since our earliest days, Lyft has offered in-app tipping because it’s the right thing to do. After four years, Lyft drivers had earned $100 million in tips. Nine months after that, total tips doubled to $200 million.
Today, two and a half months later, we’re celebrating another milestone: Lyft drivers have now earned over a quarter billion dollars in tips.
All that tipping has helped propel billions in driver earnings. It’s a big milestone, and to celebrate, we’re rolling out improvements to help drivers earn more.
Passengers will begin to see $2, $5, and $10 when the fare is above $25, instead of the current $1, $2, and $5 tip options. The custom tip option will remain available for all rides.
We’ve heard from both passengers and drivers that higher-value options make more sense for higher-cost rides. In the initial rollout, we’ve seen increased tips on rides over $25 with this change.
Lyft drivers go above and beyond, making millions of days and smoothing out countless commutes. Now we’re making it just a bit easier to say thank you for all that hard work.
