We’re excited to announce that Lyft has received the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Award, which recognizes companies that show an exceptional commitment to equality for the LGBTQ community. The award is the highest honor given by HRC. As the youngest company to ever receive this award, we could not be more honored by this recognition.
“Lyft has been a trailblazing corporate ally to the LGBTQ community, both with its inclusive internal policies for employees and its outspoken executives who have made clear that the company strongly supports pro-equality legislation and policies across the country,” said Deena Fidas, director of the Workplace Equality Program at the Human Rights Campaign. “We are so pleased to award Lyft with the HRC Corporate Equality Award and we look forward to watching its advocacy continue and grow.”
Everyone who walks into the Lyft headquarters is greeted by a sign that reads “Be Yourself.” As one of our core values, being yourself is more than a poster on the wall. It guides everything we do, especially when it comes to supporting LGBTQ causes.
Through Lyft’s Round Up and Donate program, nearly 50,000 individuals have connected with HRC in support of LGBTQ causes.
To celebrate Pride this year, Lyft announced it would donate $100,000 to LGBTQ+ causes over the next 12 months.
Lyft’s LGBTQ employee resource group, LyftOUT, developed a Gender Inclusion and Affirmation Policy that lays out comprehensive protections and benefits for Lyft employees.
According to a recent survey of the Lyft community, nearly 9% of drivers and 13% of passengers identified as gay, lesbian, or bisexual. While every Lyft ride is a place to be yourself, we know that’s not the case for everyone, everywhere. That’s why we’re so committed to continuing to support those like HRC and others who are fighting for LGBTQ rights every single day.
