We’ve partnered with No One Left Behind to put interpreters who’ve risked their lives alongside American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan back in the driver’s seat.
No One Left Behind is a non-profit that helps resettle interpreters granted special immigrant visas (SIVs). As many interpreters settle in the United States, they struggle with long-term financial stability. No One Left Behind provides support for these interpreters that bridges the gap between the State Department and NGO relief programs and provides temporary housing, employment, and cultural adaptation.
Lyft has partnered with No One Left Behind to build a pilot program which gives interpreters the extra support they need to get on the road to economic independence. Through the program, interpreters on SIVs can access special benefits, discounted rides to appointments and employment as drivers. If they don’t have access to a car, they’ll qualify for Express Drive — a Lyft program that enables drivers to earn free car rentals for driving a specified number of hours per week.
On January 17, at our Crystal City location, we hosted a driver information session for interpreters on SIVs to register for the program. With No One Left Behind, we are working to help these interpreters go places.
