Lyft and NC Department of Transportation Partner to Promote Seatbelt Safety this Holiday Season

Lyft and NCDOT have partnered together this holiday season to encourage seat belt usage in Charlotte, which reports the largest unbuckled population per capita within North Carolina.

From November 30 - December 14, post a selfie on Instagram with your seatbelt while in a Lyft ride using hashtags #BackSeatBuckleUp and #ClickItOrTicket, and tagging @Lyft @ncdot and @nc_ghsp for a chance to win $500 in Lyft credit.

To celebrate, score $5 off your next ride anywhere in Charlotte between 6 PM and 2 AM.

Last year, more than 1,400 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes around North Carolina. Of those crashes a staggering 414 were unbelted. “These numbers are a reminder that dangers are lurking for every driver and passenger in every seat throughout the year, especially during the holiday season when more people are on the road,” Mark Ezzell, Director of The Governor’s Highway Safety Program, said. “In addition, many of those killed or seriously injured in crashes are unbuckled and data shows that they are the most at risk for dying if involved in a crash.”

“We want everyone to wear seatbelts all the time, and whenever we can join forces with our partners at NCDOT to promote safety, Lyft is excited to help,” said Lauren Pelletier, Market Manager for Lyft Charlotte.
