Even in a city as progressive as Portland, the LGBTQ community still faces discrimination and stigmatization. This is felt acutely by older gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community members, who have been up against this oppression for a lifetime. Enter, SAGE Metro Portland.
SAGE Metro Portland is an invaluable resource to Portland-area LGBT elders. Founded in 2011, SAGE works to enhance the lives of older gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community members through education, advocacy, outreach, and resource development. Though SAGE has a robust offering of programs, the community members it serves often struggle to get to their premises because of lack of transportation.
As a part of its Community Grants program, Lyft Portland is thrilled to award $1,000 in Lyft ride credits to SAGE Metro Portland. SAGE will use these ride credits to help transport their members to doctors visits, food bank sites, events, and community spaces.
Started in January 2018, each month, Lyft awards one nonprofit in the Portland Metro Area a $1,000 grant in the form of Lyft ride credits. These credits are used to enhance the organization's programs and enrich the lives of its members through better transportation.
