Earth Day: One Day, One Butt, One Seat

Earth Day: One Day, One Butt, One Seat

As a rideshare company, we’re constantly thinking about butt-math: A car has five seats, a person has one butt. The more people share the ride, the more cars are off the road. Though Lyft rides are carbon neutral and we’re working to introduce thousands of electric vehicles to the Lyft app this year, we’re not there yet. So to make a difference this Earth Day, we’re looking to the OG carbon-free form of transport: the bicycle.

Roll Carbon Free for Earth Day

The benefits of bike riding are evident: It’s healthier. It can be faster. And it’s better for our planet. That’s why we now operate one of the largest bikeshare networks in the country. And on April 22, all participating bikeshare rides are free. So please ride a bike — your bike, a buddy’s bike, a neighbor’s bike, any bike — and do your part for the Earth.

Share a Seat in a Shared

This is where butt-math comes in: Request a shared ride and we’ll match you with riders heading the same direction, and you’ll save a few bucks in the process. Less congestion is a pretty sweet way to help save the earth. (Heads up, Shared rides only appear as an option in areas where Lyft rides are most commonly taken.) By becoming America’s largest bikeshare service, as well as launching Lyft scooters (yeah, we have those, too), and integrating public transit into the Lyft app, we’re working to create a better future for the communities we serve and building on our promise to offer transportation options that are better for the environment.

Sure, we’re a rideshare company, butt.
