Get Your Free Download of Chance the Rapper’s Debut Album “The Big Day”

Rosie Bubb - Jul 26, 2019

Today, and throughout this weekend, every Lyft ride is a Chance the Rapper release-party ride. The Chicago rapper and social activist’s much-anticipated new album “The Big Day” drops today — and is exclusively available to Lyft riders and drivers to download for free. Read on to find out how to download your copy — and support a cause near and dear to Chance’s heart.  (Hint: You’ll need the Lyft passenger or driver app handy.)

For Chance, it was important to offer this opportunity to the entire Lyft community. “I want as many people as possible to have access to my music.”

Open access to music has long been a tenet in Chance’s career. Chance, aka Chancelor Bennett, has historically never sold his music, choosing to release all his previous mixtapes via streaming services. He released his last mixtape, Coloring Book, in May 2016 — and it nabbed him three Grammys for Best New Artist, Best Rap Album, and Best Rap Performance. Fun fact: He’s the first artist to win a Grammy without selling traditional, physical albums.

Now about that debut “Owbum” of his. (Yes, debut. His previous releases were technically singles or mixtapes.) Chance titled it The Big Day in reference to his wedding day.  Now, enjoy the “Big Weekend” where you can ride with Chance and celebrate the release with him — and thousands of other Lyft riders and drivers.

“After working with Chance the Rapper to create an episode of Undercover Lyft in support of Chicago Public Schools, we were excited to continue our collaboration by partnering on his first official album with riders and drivers at the center of the experience,” says Austin Schumacher, Head of Culture and Entertainment at Lyft. “From cassette tapes to passing the aux cord, music and driving have always gone hand in hand, and we wanted to create a new in-car experience. We’re thrilled to partner with Chance again, and to continue supporting artists who share our values to highlight their work and the causes they believe in.”

To spread the word about his arts nonprofit CPS: The New Chance Fund, he starred in an Undercover Lyft episode last October. In his native Chicago, Chance went incognito as a Lyft driver, giving die-hard fans the surprise of a lifetime. One fan was so convinced he was a driver that … well, you’ll have to see for yourself.

Chance founded The New Chance Fund to empower young people in Chicago through the arts, education, and civic engagement. Starting today through August 31, everyone across the U.S. can show their support right in the Lyft app through our Round Up & Donate program. When you opt in to CPS: The New Chance Fund, we’ll round up your ride payment and donate the difference to support Chicago Public Schools.

Happy listening!
