If you’re a music lover in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, listen up: an all new, two-day music festival is coming to town: Fortress Festival. The event is hosted in Fort Worth at Will Rogers Memorial Center and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth in the Cultural District, and the lineup includes artists like Run The Jewels, Purity Ring, and Flying Lotus.
We got a chance to sit down with the founders of Fortress Festival, Alec Jhangiani and Ramtin Nikzad to get the scoop on this music-filled weekend in Fort Worth.
Q: What is Fortress Festival?
A: "Fortress Festival is the first destination music festival in North Texas. It is two days featuring 20+ bands on two stages at Will Rogers Memorial Center and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Over our careers we’ve developed a real fondness for curating experiences and this was opportunity to do that on a large scale."
Q: How did you two meet?
A: "In the snack aisle at the grocery store. We both went for the same box of Wheat Thins. Just kidding — we met while working on film festivals in Dallas and Fort Worth."
Q: What sets Fortress Festival apart from other festivals?
A: "Time will tell what the real differentiators are, but the first thing is the setting. One of the stages will be on the reflecting pond at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, a stunning piece of architecture. Having live music there, with the kind of lights and sound that we are planning, will be a one-of-a-kind experience."
Q: What are you most excited for during the festival's first year?
A: "Seeing this community react to the international touring artists that have never played here before. Seeing people who haven’t been to the cultural district and the Modern, let alone been there to see live music. It’s like when you cook a really great dinner that you know people are going to love and you just can’t wait for them to taste that first bite. You’re not even hungry anymore because you’ve been cooking all day, you just want them to experience it."
