Keep Your D.C. Commute on Track with Lyft

Keep Your D.C. Commute on Track with Lyft

June 3rd marks the beginning of the D.C. Metro Rail System’s year-long repair project, SafeTrack. As Washington D.C., Virginia, and Maryland residents prepare for their Metro lines to be shut down or single-tracked, Lyft is gearing up to keep everyone moving.

D.C. Metro is the second most utilized public transportation system in the country, providing over 700,000 rides every weekday - these repairs will impact millions of commutes, late-night routes, and a lot of trips in between.

Investing in the D.C. Area

Over the past six months, our team has been working hard to get more drivers on the road in D.C., Virginia, and Maryland, and we redoubled our efforts after the full Metro shutdown in March. We've invested $15 million in D.C. so far this year, and we’re committed to doubling that investment over the duration of the SafeTrack program.

Since nearly a quarter of all Lyft rides in D.C. begin or end near a Metro stop, we’re working closely with WMATA to help close the gap between passengers’ doorsteps and public transit stations.

Even More Affordable Rides

Metro repairs will affect the entire region, but different areas will be impacted at different times. Lyft is providing Metro riders with discounted rides throughout the year that fit the phases of the SafeTrack program.

  • For a limited time, take 75% off all Lyft Line rides in our D.C. discount zone during weekday commute hours (7AM to 10AM and 4PM to 8PM)

  • Take 50% off your first five Lyft Classic rides, starting or ending in Northern Virginia during weekday commute hours (from June 6 through June 17, 6AM to 10AM and 4PM to 8PM)

  • Deal of the Week (updated weekly): 20% off rides between 8PM to 4AM (from June 6 through June 12)*

Lyft Line will continue to be available throughout our full service area. With Lyft Line, you can share rides with other passengers going in the same direction for a lower price.

Stay tuned for more ways to save on rides in the D.C. area during Metro repairs - we’ll be updating the blog with more deals. Whether you’re heading to another Metro stop or re-routing your trip entirely, you can always count on Lyft for a ride in minutes.
