Portland: Celebrate the Fourth of July and Ride Like a Pro

From firework shows to beer festivals, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday this year in Portland, both on the day-of and the weekend leading up to it. We've got tips to help you make the most of your Fourth by riding like a pro.

We’ve rounded up our favorite places to celebrate below with helpful tips specific to each. Check them out, and remember: if you'll be drinking, let Lyft be your DD. We look forward to celebrating with you soon!

1. Independence Day at Fort Vancouver, July 4

For more than 50 years, Fort Vancouver has been setting off the “best fireworks show West of the Mississippi” and this year, it’s set to be even better than before. With kid-friendly activities throughout the day, head here to celebrate the Fourth with the whole family. Bear in mind, the Fort draws tens of thousands of people each year, so be sure to arrive early if you want good seats.

Pro Tip: With all of the road closures and congestion around Fort Vancouver, be sure to head over to our pickup/drop-off at The Providence Academy Building for easy riding. It’s a quick 7-minute walk away from the festivities, across I-5, where E Evergreen Blvd. and C St intersect. When going to the event, simply follow E Evergreen St heading east for 7 minutes, passing over I-5, and you’ll arrive at the Fort.

2. Waterfront Blues Festival, June 30-July 4

Over the 5-day span of this festival, more than 100,000 people will flock to Tom McCall Waterfront Park to listen to some bluesy tunes and celebrate the Fourth. With headliners like Chris Isaak, Joss Stone and the Big Head Blues Club, and a jaw-dropping fireworks display on the 4th, this’ll be a festival you won’t want to miss.

Pro Tips: With so many people at Tom McCall, we recommend walking a few blocks away to SW 1st or 2nd Ave. before requesting your Lyft ride for easier pickups. Have more than four people in your crew? Request a Lyft Plus and leave no friend behind.

3. Portland Craft Beer Festival, June 30-July 2

While this beer festival may not extend into the 4th, it’ll be rocking during the days leading up to the holiday. With the broadest selection of local beers, ciders and wine, including a few that you can't find anywhere else, Portland Craft Beer Festival is where you’ll want to be when it’s 82 degrees and sunny this weekend. Our team will be on-site and ready to help you get your safe ride home. Bonus: It’s in the beautiful Fields Neighborhood Park in the Pearl, with amazing vistas of the Fremont Bridge.

Pro Tips: Head to our pickup/drop-off zone at the intersection of Overton and NW 10th for easy rides. And keep an eye out for the color of your driver’s Amp device; it should match the color glowing in your app.

4) Oaks Park’s Pepsi 4th of July Spectacular, July 4

Further south on the Willamette River, Oaks Park is planning to light up the sky with its 4th of July Spectacular. If you’re wanting a fun way to spend your 4th away from the bigger crowds at Fort Vancouver and Waterfront Blues Festival, Oaks Park is the place for you. Plus, you can go on fun rides or rollerskate while you wait for the sun to set!

Pro Tip: Head to the sidewalk outside of the Oaks Park Parking Lot, to avoid getting stuck in the congestion near the Park’s Entrance.
