Time and again, the future of ridesharing has depended on those who stand up for what they believe in. Whether spearheading petitions, attending a local hearing, or sending an email to your Council Member about the benefits of increasing transportation options, the Lyft community has seen firsthand that change can happen when people get involved in the process.
That’s why we are excited to announce our partnership with Rock the Vote to help increase registration and participation in the 2014 elections. Rock the Vote, the largest non-profit non-partisan organization in the United States, works to mobilize the youth vote, protect voting rights, and advocate for a modern and efficient voting system.
An important part of our effort starts today on National Voter Registration Day. According to the Pew Research Center, over 51 million eligible Americans were not registered to vote in 2012. And about 24 million — one of every eight — active voter registrations in the country are inaccurate or no longer valid.
This isn’t about politics or partisanship. We don’t care if you vote “yes” or “no.” But we do believe your elected officials should know what issues matter to you, and that registering to vote is the first step in making sure your voice is heard. Check out Rock The Vote’s website to learn about registration deadlines, find your polling place, and register to vote today!
