For the second year in a row, Lyft is honoured to be the Official Rideshare Partner of Pride Toronto. We are committed to celebrating all expressions of gender identity and this year we are proud to launch a Pride campaign centred around advocating for transgender and non-binary inclusion and equality, including name change support and preferred pronouns in-app.
“Two is Too Few, Support All Expressions of Gender Identity.”
Because Two is Too Few, the Lyft app is now the first rideshare app in Canada and the U.S. to offer a range of optional pronouns to include transgender and non-binary riders.
Join us in supporting the LGBTQIA+ community and share your support on social with our official hashtag #TwoIsTooFew.
Here’s how else to get involved:
Celebration of Pride Toronto
The fun starts Friday, June 21st, with the parade taking place Sunday, June 23rd at 2PM. Lyft will be at the StreetFair all weekend and marching in the Pride Parade on Sunday, June 23rd with a float starring RuPaul’s Drag Race’s first Canadian queen and top 2 finalist Brooke Lynn Hytes.
“Pride is a fitting way to describe how I’m feeling about this year’s festivities,” said Brooke Lynn Hytes. “I’m proud to partner with Lyft at this year’s Pride Toronto Parade in light of how the company is advocating for transgender and non-binary inclusion and equality. I can’t wait to come back home to Toronto to celebrate Pride with my community.”
Toronto creators, including Stef Sanjati and DJ Karim Olen Ash, will also be featured on the Lyft float at the Pride Toronto Parade, along with drivers, partners and employees.
"Oftentimes during Pride season, I see other brands running Pride campaigns, but making no significant change in their companies,” said Stef Sanjati. “I'm proud to join Lyft in the Pride Toronto Parade this year because they are making actionable change by creating in-app options for transgender and non-binary riders to feel more comfortable and accommodated. That's something to be proud of.”
Use code PRIDEYYZ19 to get $5 off your next two rides to or from Pride Toronto between June 21st and 23rd. Just drop your pin anywhere within our coverage area.
We’re also partnering with Casey House, Canada’s first and only stand-alone hospital for people with HIV/AIDS, to harness the power of our community. We will be donating $1 to Casey House for every ride taken during Pride Toronto using our code*. Casey House mirrors Lyft’s commitment to creating an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome, comfortable, respected and cared for — both in and out of the car.
To better address and support LGBTQIA+, we’ve also launched the following services across North America:
Recognition of Gender Diversity
Pronoun Options for Riders
The Lyft app now offers a range of optional pronouns to include transgender and non-binary riders.
To update your pronoun, visit the Menu in your Lyft app, tap View Profile, then tap Personal info, select your pronoun, and tap Save.
Assistance for Transitioning Drivers
In order to support our trans drivers, Lyft is sharing resources from The 519, a charity and City of Toronto agency committed to the health, happiness and full participation of LGBTS2S communities. These resources offer useful information about how to support diverse gender identities and gender expressions. As a company, Lyft places an emphasis on upholding an inclusive and diverse environment - whether it’s during a ride or at a Driver Hub - and creating awareness during Pride month in Toronto is part of the company’s ongoing community efforts in Canada.
