We have exciting news to share from the Virginia Lyft community. Today, Governor Terry McAuliffe signed legislation authorizing peer-to-peer transportation in the Commonwealth!
This new law was crafted specifically for ridesharing and ensures that Virginians will continue to have access to Lyft's welcoming, affordable rides. We’d like to thank the Governor, DMV Commissioner Holcomb, Senators Watkins, Obenshain, Marsden, Newman and McDougle as well as Delegates Rust and Hugo for their thoughtful work and leadership.
We also want to thank you, the members of the Lyft community who spoke up and encouraged state leaders to find a way forward that allows friendly, community drivers to give rides to those who need them. Your support was instrumental in securing this victory, and we wouldn’t be here without you.
Since our launch in Virginia over a year ago, Lyft passengers and drivers have shared tens of thousands of rides - swapping stories, offering advice, and meeting new neighbors. We’ve only just started making memories together and can’t wait to see what the future for Lyft in Virginia holds.
